Drawing its name from the Spanish word used to describe vineyard plots in the Jerez region, Hampden Estate Pagos is the first rum in the distillery’s history to be entirely aged in sherry casks. This new version of Hampden Estate Pagos resulted from a partnership with the renowned Bodegas Fundador in Jerez, centered around the idea of fully aging a Hampden rum in prestigious 500-liter sherry casks. After three years, the oloroso-filled casks were emptied to welcome the intensity of Hampden and relocated to the distillery. Pagos’ flavor, aroma, and color palettes are deeply infused with the unique woody notes of sherry. To enhance this undeniable influence, in perfect synergy with Hampden Estate’s high ester level, Pagos has been bottled at 52%. | |

Nose : Deep and rich. The initial scent reveals notes of ylang-ylang, cloves, roasted nuts, blood oranges, apricot kernel, and cherry eau-de-vie. With aeration, almond notes, emery cloth, raisins, dates, and a subtle coffee liqueur direct the tasting experience towards Andalusia. Palate : Lively and powerful. In the mouth, sugarcane and chestnut honey dominate the palate. Aromas of tropical flowers deeply permeate the atmosphere. In the mid-palate, vanilla pods and cocoa beans wrap the taste buds in their subtle tannins. The aftertaste is camphoric and heady (geranium). Finish : Long and sharp. Impregnated with sugarcane flavors, the finish is refreshed by scents of coconut milk and honeysuckle, as well as notes of varnish and mustard seeds. The aftertaste reveals hints of blond tobacco, lime blossom, pink pepper, and coriander. Aromas of nuts, raisins, and dried straw mark the empty glass and transport us to southern Spain. |
