A good bourbon for cocktail is one that blends when with other flavors, whereby mixing doesn't diminish the flavor of the whiskey nor ingredients used.
The abovementioned bourbons don't have overpowering characteristics and shine when used in a cocktail. These are affordable & commonly found bourbons that you will definitely find in most bars!

Whiskey Sour
A classic cocktail that uses bourbon, one that's on the list of official cocktails by the International Bartender Association (IBA).
Here's what you need (1 serving):
- Bourbon Whiskey (4 tablespoon)
- Lemon Juice (2 tablespoon)
- Maple Syrup (1.5 tablespoon)
- Garnish (Orange peel or cocktail cherry)
- Ice
Add Bourbon, Lemon Juice and Syrup to a cocktail shaker, fill with a handful of ice and shake until the mix is very cold.
Strain the drink into a glass, top with ice and garnish!
Bourbon Sidecar
A spin on another IBA official cocktail, this bourbon version adds another dimension of the classic bourbon sweetness to the mix!
Here's what you need (1 serving):
- Bourbon Whiskey (4 tablespoon)
- Cointreau (2 tablespoon)
- Lemon Juice (1 tablespoon)
- Simple Syrup (1 teaspoon)
- Garnish (lemon twist)
Place all the ingredients with ice and shake until cold. Strain the drink into a cocktail glass then garnish and serve.
Whiskey Highball
This is one of the easiest cocktails to make that shines the spotlight on the whiskey used.
Here's what you need (1 serving):
- Bourbon Whiskey (2 ounces)
- Soda water (4 ounces)
- Garnish (lemon peel)
- Ice (clear, if possible!)
Fill the glass with ice and pour in the bourbon and soda water and stir gently, squeeze the lemon wedge and serve!
