Details | This deliciously rich, unpeated 30-year-old is a relatively new addition to Bunnahabhain’s core range. The nose offers an abundance of stewed stone fruits, complemented by citrus oils, wood spice and a salty note that, for me, encapsulates the essence of exceptional Islay malts. Three decades in oak have brought the alcohol level to a generous yet balanced 46.3%. This gives a mouthcoating, oily texture, underpinned by beautiful flavours of cooked plums and apricots, malted cereals, honeycomb and a hint of ginger. All is elegantly underscored by a fine-grained wood note. This is delicately saline and spicy on the near-endless finish. I have a sudden urge to enjoy a couple of drams paired with a kipper, ideally in situ at the distillery, overlooking Bunnahabhain Bay. |
