The Woodford Reserve Collection
WOODFORD RESERVE DISTILLERY
A fine bourbon distillery in Kentucky dating all the way back to 1812.
Woodford Reserve Distillery has had a rich history of over two centuries producing excellent quality bourbons. The Distillery is anchored by two master distillers— Chris Morris & Elizabeth McCall.
They are the brains driving the innovation and development of new products within Woodford Reserve.
Chris Morris is the current head Master Distiller with a career in bourbon dating back to 1976 when he was a trainee in Brown-Forman's central lab.
He is the mastermind behind Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Rye and Master's Collection; Chris cites that the key to making good whiskey are time and patience coupled with a sense of good craftsmanship.
Being one of the youngest female distillers in the United States, Elizabeth McCall is an extremely accomplished second generation distiller following the footsteps of her family to work in the bourbon industry.
Helming the position of Assistant Master Distiller at Woodford Reserve, she interacts one-on-one with consumers through personal barrel selections and education on sensory methodology and works to define the quality sensory standard to which every batch of Woodford Reserve must comply.
Sources of flavor
According to Woodford Reserve, there are five distinct sources of flavor that makes up their incredible range.
- Grain
- Water
- Fermentation
- Distillation
- Maturation
Grain
Woodford Reserve is crafted from a grain recipe of 72% corn, 18% Rye, and 10% malted barley. This recipe balances the sweetness of corn with the spice of rye, and the nuttiness of malt to build the base for the world's most flavorful bourbon.
Water
The water used to craft Woodford Reserve is taken directly from the distillery. It is naturally filtered by the limestone deposits right under the distillery. Iron-free and mineral rich, this water is a crucial ingredient.
Fermentation
The fermentation process of Woodford Reserve's bourbons are among the longest in the industry. This extra time, paired with their unique yeast strain creates a great depth of character and a complex range of flavors.
Distillation
The perfectly balanced flavor of Woodford Reserve comes from a careful batching process of whiskey distilled in pot stills and whiskey distilled in column stills. No other whiskey can boast such a flavor combination.
Maturation
Woodford Reserve whiskies are matured in new, charred, white oak barrels of their own making. The barrel is a key ingredient in our process, contributing flavor, complexity, and balance. The crafting, toasting, and charring of bourbon barrels are done at their very own cooperage. After filling, barrels age in uniquely heat-cycled warehouses until mature.
